Wouldn't you like to play and party forever?
[It's been one week since your arrival to this godforsaken place, and little seems to have changed since then. The doors and windows remain locked, your reluctant host mingles between guests, and nobody has killed each other...yet. It's only a matter of time before someone gives out, though.
What little solace, if any, is that you wake up with several coins on the nightstand next to your bed. Perhaps you should try putting them in that mask in the salon? You might receive some interesting gifts....]

Salon
Ooooh, it's been a while since we played together! Think you're still a tough enough opponent?
[Moonstone business aside, it's been too long since they really played chess together. They never really had much time to play when they were traveling, so it's probably been over a year now!]
no subject
Oh, I think I can still go toe to toe with you, princess.
[Moonstone or not. Cassandra's life vastly improved once she came to learn that Rapunzel enjoyed board games, and the offhand sparring session, albeit with a frying pan.
She's already taken a pawn and moved it forward.]
Think you're ready to lose?
no subject
You should be asking yourself that, Cass. You know I don't give up easy.
[She moves her own pawn, pauses, then huffs.]
Geez, I can't give you a teasing nickname like that.
no subject
[She found it a lot more fun in general to have that freedom to rib on her favorite person. Knowing that she no longer had to work with the entire castle looking down on her for any mistakes.]
Yeah, too bad I already have the one nickname. Or else I'd miss out on stuff like 'Eugeetles`.
[She moves a knight next. A small tactic, perfect for setting up any number of attacks.]
no subject
It wasn't that bad... it's just hard to find a good way to turn "Eugene" into a cute nickname!
[She won't stop, though. She'll find something that both she and Eugene like! Just you wait!]
... What about "ranger"?
no subject
Mm, not that it's my job to help you on that or anything... how about "Geney"?
[Like their blue friend here- Oh, and how about that.]
"Ranger"... Not gonna like, I like the sound of that.
no subject
Awww, Geney... I like it.
[She'll have to run it by him before she starts using it full-time, though. She doesn't want to give Eugene a nickname he's uncomfortable with; that's why she's had a hard time pinning one down!]
Yeah! A traveling hero, animal companions who help you in your journeys, all dressed in greens... seems like the perfect image of a ranger to me.
no subject
Listen to me, coming up with nicknames for your fiance.
[It's fine. She's fine. She's a creative genius!! Just look at the tower she made. All 'hostile architecture'.]
I may or may not have saved some groups of people recently. All in a day's work for a ranger like me. I might start going by that name.
["The Ranger"....]
no subject
Really??? Tell me all about it!
no subject
Well, after I made it to Vardaros, I thought I'd hang around for a while, see what Quaid and Vex have been up to. And it just so happened that there were still some groups of the Baron's guys trying to take the city down...
But shouldn't you be focusing on the game?
[Because she just captured your knight, Raps.]
no subject
[Revenge! A bishop taken.]
Oh right, Quaid sent me a letter after you first arrived! He sounded really happy, actually. You've really got some good friends over in Vardaros.
[Cass can take care of herself, for sure, but it helps Rapunzel rest a little easier at night, knowing that there are other people looking out for her best friend, if she needs it.]
You're gunna be a legendary folk hero before you know it, Cass, if you move from town to town and right all wrongs like that. [She giggles.] You better get used to bards singing songs about you.
no subject
[She laughs. This was what she missed the most; the goodnatured fun they had together, before the Dark Kingdom, and everything that followed that.]
I'll admit, it was fun going through Vardaros again and seeing everyone. It's doing way better than it used to be.
[She might not have friends everywhere, but there were people who definitely enjoyed her presence. She hadn't completely ruined everything for herself after all.]
Maybe that's what my destiny is, being a hero; doing some good wherever I go, saving lives and wining hearts... not to mention this game.
[That's one of your bishops captured, Raps! She could feel the taste of victory on her lips...]
no subject
[Of course that's where Rapunzel's mind goes first. She knows not to pry into Cass's personal life, she absolutely learned that lesson from the whole Andrew mess. But that doesn't mean she can't jokingly needle her best friend about this!
... Joking. Yeah. Why does joking about that feel weird? She's not sure, but she'll huff and move another piece. In her next couple of moves she can only manage to take a few of Cass's pawns, but that's still something. Whittle the forces down until the King is unprotected.]
no subject
[She chuckles, in the same, warm way that she laughed at Eugene's question about if there were any cobra men in her life. Her mind hadn't strayed to being in love for months, not since her fake relationship with Hubert. And there had been absolutely zero feelings there.
...But it was a year later, and many things had changed. The option of letting herself fall in love somewhere was suddenly very, very open. But how could she? When her stomach flipped every time she met the eyes watching her from across the chess board?]
I'll be happy with just winning their respect. [Speaking of...] Checkmate.
[a few moves later, amid their conversation, and Cass had managed to land her last knight in front of Rapunzel's king.]
no subject
[The idea of teasing Cass about her potential love life makes Rapunzel feel... weird. Not bad, but... it makes something in her stomach feel weird? Good thing she doesn't have to dwell on that, because the clack of Cass's knight landing in front of her king silences her pretty fast.]
No way! You've never ended a match that quickly before!
no subject
[She could take teasing from anybody, but Rapunzel teasing her for that? Thank goodness she'd been able to take control and catch an opening she'd spotted in Rapunzel's defenses.]
But you weren't half bad, Raps. You had me on the ropes for a little bit, but it looks like I came out on top this time.
no subject
[She tries her best to sound Very Serious, but the grin on her face betrays how she really feels.]
I'm absolutely going to win the next one, you know. Don't get too used to this victory!
no subject
[Oh so serious. Cassandra's grin softens slightly.]
Okay, okay. I'll play with you as many times as you want, Raps. Buuuut you still lost this time. It's too bad we weren't playing for any prizes.
no subject
[She laughs. After everything that happened in Vardaros, and after reading about how Vex has really thrown her all into helping Quaid, she knows Cass and the girl will be great friends from now on.]
Real prizes, huh... like who gets first pick of whatever Sugarplum is baking? Or who gets to offer first requests for what we eat at night?
[Trapped as they were, they can't really bet days off or chores like they once did, so they've gotta get creative.]
For now, though... oh!
[Rapunzel hops to her feet so she can lean over the table, closer and closer to Cass, until-]
A kiss for the winner.
[-her lips press to Cass's cheek in a quick, chaste kiss.
.... It. It was just a quick kiss, right? It wasn't awkward? Because... oh, Rapunzel can feel a light tingle still...]
no subject
Yeah, those are some good options...
[Before Cass can even raise another idea, it seems as if Rapunzel's already decided how to commemorate this victory.
She watches Rapunzel hop to her feet, noting the spark in her eyes as she leans in towards her. Instinctively, she tilts her head, prepared to hear what Raps was going to whisper into her ear.
...That was most absolutely not a whisper. It's so quick that it's already over, and yet Cass is left briefly stunned by it.]
Oh-Or... or that. Okay. That works!
[The tingle was still there... Was her face a little red? Hm. Must be warm in here.]
no subject
Y-Yeah!
[Yeah, this is totally normal! Best friends do this all the time! At least.... Rapunzel assumes so. She's never had a human best friend before.]
As a... thank you. Or "good job"? S-Something like that.
no subject
Totally. [A small, weak laugh and a even weaker smile.] Good job. With... the game, I mean. The kiss was fine too.
[Sun and Moon help her.]
