Week 5

[Well even despite your best efforts, a murder happened, and you found out that someone you thought was a good friend turned out to be someone who'd kill all of you if they had the chance. So that's a fun way to end a trial, right?

On the bright(???) side, the last bit of the island has opened up! You can go drown your sorrows elsewhere now! Isn't that great?

Look I'm trying my best to stave you guys away from the despair that is "trapped on a murder island", go have fun dancing or something.]

[A day later, and Cassandra is unbothered by the motive. Really, she's fine. The idea of bringing someone back from the dead hasn't plagued her all day, or night, even in her dreams!

Nope! She's fine. Just... just fine.

So fine, in fact, that she spends most of the day hard at work on the beach, focusing her mind towards assembling a raft out of the materials she'd gathered. Rope, glue, logs she'd chopped down earlier in the week, it all went towards assembling a base. The sail would be a different matter. At least she had something coming along.

Escape, however perilous, has to be possible. It's also something for her to put her mind towards. If she doesn't, she gets distracted.

Which happens, at a point around midday, when Cassandra is nowhere to be seen among her work in progress... but rather further up the shoreline.

She's huddled on the ground, legs up to her chest and looking at something in her hands, and talking to herself?]

-so whenever you hear this tune, you'll think of you dear, sweet mother. And the love I have for you...

[That is not Cassandra's voice.

[Rapunzel hadn't watched what was on the mirror. She knew there was... something different about it, thanks to the missing piece being returned, and she won't say she wasn't curious if that changed anything in the image that it held. But that mirror... it had hit Cass so hard. It didn't feel right to watch it without her now.

Well... she'll find out soon what was on the rest of it, it seems, because when she spots Cass sitting in the sand a bit of a ways down the beach from the raft project, she hears that voice. A voice that can still send a chill down her spine, causing it to bend in the slumped, meek posture she usually adapted around her "mother".

Gothel...]

... Cass?

[She's not going to immediately sit down next to her friend, not wanting to startle her or invade in on a private moment, so Rapunzel stands a few feet away. For now.]

Are you... okay?

I love you, mama-

Raps!

[The voice, this time overjoyed and tiny, is smothered against Cassandra's chest at the sound of her princess's voice.

It's an uncomfortable and long moment stretching between them, every second weighs further on Cass's chest as she attempts to come up with an excuse.]

I-I was just... I'm fine. Really. I just...

[...She's not going to be able to hide this, is she? Though, mercifully, the mirror has turned off, but it was still incredibly obvious just what she had cradled in her arms: the same item that one drove them apart.]

[Cass is normally so collected, even when she's not calm - Moonstone business aside. Seeing her stuttering and trying to hide the mirror... it's a clue that she's lying straight to Rapunzel's face, but Rapunzel doesn't care about that. She's... heartbroken, really, seeing Cass like this.]

... It's okay to say if you're not, Cass. [She takes a few steps closer, and sits. They're not hip to hip yet, just... close.] I know seeing that again must be... really hard.

[It's a horrible shame that. Cassandra could lie like the best of them, to Andrew, to other people she barely knew. Lying to Rapunzel was an entirely different hurdle, and far more difficult. She could barely keep herself in check as they neared the Dark Kingdom. And now...?]

It's... [she exhales, not moving away as Rapunzel joins her. Actually, she slides a bit closer.] It's not that. I mean, Ikeep thinking about it; the one hope I had that my mother cared... It was a lie, and I know she was horrible to you, and to me.

I just... some part of me still... wants to have that hope.

[And she sounds ashamed to admit it.]

Yo! [Foxy waves to Cassandra as she comes trotting up.] You need some help with that?

[Cass looks up from her work, giving a little wave as she spots Foxy.]

I could always use a hand, considering this is how I'm hoping we can escape this island. [She at least need to do something with her hands.] How are you holding up?

I'm feeling way better! Much more like my old self! And Tadashi let me help cut down a tree!

Glad to hear it. Honestly, that get up with the dress had nothing on this. [She wipes her brow and gestures to the tools around her.]

I'm not looking to cut down any trees... but do you want to help me put the raft together?

Yeah, it definitely looks like enough trees. You just need to tie them together, right?

Sure, here. Let's see how good you are at tying knots.

[As she tosses over a coil of rope.]

[She catches it, and after a bit of scrambling to get it together, starts wrapping it around two of the logs.]

Should we tie them all together at once, or separately first?
